The airport is a metaphor for the modern town square. It is a place of meeting, commerce, rest, and interaction. We perceive the airport space as a unique type of public space. Therefore, we are pleased that Václav Havel Airport Prague has become the first institution of its kind in the world to introduce its own Poesiomat – a periscope into Czech cultural history.
The Poesiomat at Václav Havel Airport Prague offers 20 tracks that introduce travelers to various prominent Czech personalities from the fields of culture, politics, and sports. Visitors can listen to the life stories of Václav Havel, Milan Kundera, Karel Čapek, Antonín Holý, Milada Horáková, Eliška Junková, Jaroslav Seifert, Josef Bican, and many other figures, as well as the story of the creation of the legendary Pilsner lager and the globally famous song "Škoda lásky."
The main language of the Poesiomat at Václav Havel Airport Prague is English, with voices provided by British journalist and BBC correspondent Rob Cameron and Czech Radio editor Ruth Fraňková. In addition to English, the Poesiomat also recites and sings in French, German, and Spanish.
The Poesiomat is not the only new playful element in the airport's relaxation zone, located in Terminal 2 near the departure gates labeled C. Alongside the Poesiomat, we have also installed unique chess tables, which are special in that they include a complete set of chess pieces.
The unveiling of the Poesiomat and chess tables at Václav Havel Airport Prague symbolically follows the placement of pianos, which have been available in Terminals 1 and 2 since 2013.
