Dobříš

Dobříš. A town closely tied to the Czech art scene. For several decades, the Dobříš Chateau served as a residence for writers and other artists, who found support and space for their creative work here, thanks to the Literary Fund.

Just beyond the chateau wall, in the Jedlový Grove near the avenue in Lipky, stands the Poesiomat. Listeners of the poetic tube in Dobříš can look forward to song lyrics by Josef Kainar, who composed lyrics for the legendary album Kuře v hodinkách by Flamengo and Vladimír Mišík while staying at the chateau. Other recordings include stories and fairy tales by Václav Čtvrtek, who conceived characters like Rumcajs, Česílko the water sprite, and Křemílek and Vochomůrka while strolling in the local English park. You can also hear recollections from notable pianist Zuzana Růžičková about her childhood in Dobříš, along with works by Dobříš authors such as Edvard Valenta, Alois Rys, Ladislav Malý, Jan Beneš, and Sylva Stambergová. Additionally, the Poesiomat includes poems and anecdotes by Egon Bondy, who, along with Honza Krejcarová, was famously arrested by the SNB in Dobříš during a wild period of his "season in hell."

The recordings were made in collaboration with children from the Dobříš Elementary Art School, and actors from the Podbrdské National Theatre lent their voices to the Poesiomat. Its patron is Miloň Čepelka from the Jára Cimrman Theatre, who spent several years in the Dobříš area as a teacher.
