Žatec. The town of hops, the center of a unique landscape listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. A town with a significant German and Jewish history.
The Žatec Poesiomat offers compositions in three languages: a poem and a song in German, a lullaby in Yiddish, and in Czech, for example, songs from the legendary musical Starci na chmelu, the dialogue The Ploughman and Death from the immortal work by Jan of Žatec, the legend of the town’s savior Boreš, stories about the Žatec treasure, or the tune for the town's radio broadcast, composed for Žatec by the local native Karel Reiner.
It also features poems by Žatec patriot Adolf Seifert about hops, a nursery rhyme by an unknown author about Pottery Square, health recipes from Maria Treben, and an adventure into the land of the Mashukulumbas with the famous Žatec grammar school graduate, Dr. Emil Holub.
The realization of the Žatec Poesiomat came from the participatory budget We Create for Žatec for the year 2023.
