Písek

At the oldest stone bridge in the Czech Republic, a periscope has appeared. It stands on the riverbank, gazing at the bridge and reciting poetry.

The Poesiomat in Písek recites famous works by local authors such as Fráňa Šrámek and Adolf Heyduk. At the same time, it gives space to contemporary writers from Písek, whose works are regularly updated by the Písek Municipal Library.

Beyond literature, listeners can enjoy the famous folk song “Když jsem já šel tou Putimskou branou”, South Bohemian folklore performed by the Písečan Folklore Ensemble and the children’s ensemble Písečánek, a talk on house signs by historian Jiří Prášek, memories of Písek shared by renowned Czech architect Josef Pleskot, or a recording of the victorious Olympic race with commentary by Kateřina Neumannová.

The program also includes the legend of the “Jelení Bridge” narrated by Písek native and member of the Jára Cimrman Theatre, Petr Brukner, as well as a selection of children’s pieces prepared by the unique Sladovna Gallery.

The realization of the Písek Poesiomat was financially supported by the City of Písek, with recordings contributed by Miroslav Ondříček Film Academy students Michal Pazderka and Natálie Golovchenko.
