The City Above the Váh, Watched Over by a Majestic Castle. European Capital of Culture 2026. Trenčín.
In the pre-Christmas season, Trenčín became the first city in the world to introduce the Koledomat—a special version of the Poesiomat offering national carols from all EU member states to bring joy to its residents.
With the arrival of the new year, a fresh concept was introduced. The carols were replaced by poems and songs from Trenčín artists, stories of Trenčín legends, and even the voices of local birds.
Visitors to the Trenčín Poesiomat, located in Štúr Square in the city center, can listen to Štúr’s poetic chant Matúš from Trenčín, songs by the Trenčín bands Bez ladu a skladu and Chór vážskych muzikantov, poems by Rudolf Dobiáš, humorous essays by Kornel Földvári, the fairy tale Valentin the Water Sprite by Vlado Kulíšek, musical works by young Trenčín musicians Nina Kohout and Jerguš Oravec, and much more.
The voices of the Poesiomat were provided by actors from Divadlo Normálka, as well as mime artist Vlado Kulíšek and actor (and also mime) Pavol Seriš.
The Trenčín Poesiomat was made possible thanks to financial support from the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 project.
